Some Things Are Too Hard For A Pocket Grinder
Put a whole nutmeg into a novelty grinder and you will hear the exact moment it gives up. Nutmeg is a seed, dense enough to survive being dropped on tile. Rock salt is crystal. Dried ginger is fibrous and stubborn. These are not herbs, and the teeth built for herbs are not built for them.
The Quarry is. Stainless steel throughout, with a mechanism made for material that fights back — the one in the range you reach for when what you are grinding is genuinely hard.
And stainless is not a detail here, it is the reason it works. Salt corrodes ordinary metals; that is why most grinders will not tell you to put rock salt anywhere near them. Stainless steel does not care. Grind salt on Monday and pepper on Tuesday, rinse it in between, and it stays exactly as it was.
Why It Works
Stainless Steel, Named
Not "metal" — stainless. It is the only alloy here that shrugs off salt, and it is the specific reason this one can handle what the others cannot.
Built For Hard Material
Nutmeg, dried ginger, rock salt, peppercorns. Dense, crystalline, fibrous — the things that blunt a grinder designed for leaves.
CE Certified
Carries EU conformity marking — the only item in the range that does. If it is going near food, that distinction is worth having.
Black Or Steel
Matte black to sit with the rest of the collection, or bare stainless to sit on a kitchen counter. Same mill underneath.
Why It Earns Its Place
- It does the job the others cannot. Every grinder here handles herbs. This is the one for material that would strip their teeth.
- Salt will not ruin it. Stainless steel is the whole reason rock salt is on the list instead of on the warning label.
- It belongs in the kitchen. Nutmeg over pasta, cracked pepper, salt onto a steak — this earns counter space on its own terms.
- CE marked. A conformity standard behind something that touches food is not nothing.
- Two finishes, two rooms. Black disappears into the collection; steel disappears into a kitchen.
- It cleans under a tap. Stainless rinses and dries without staining or holding smell between spices.
Everything else in this collection is built around a shape. This one is built around a material — and it is the piece you will still be using long after the novelty of the others has become ordinary.

Using It
- Open it and load the chamber. Hard spices need room to tumble — half full grinds far better than packed.
- Turn steadily rather than fast. Dense material rewards patience; forcing it is how you round off teeth on any mill.
- One spice at a time. Rinse between salt and pepper, or the salt will carry through into everything after it.
- Rinse and dry fully. Stainless will not corrode, but any mill left damp will feel stiff next time.
Questions People Ask
Can it really handle whole nutmeg?
That is what it is built for. Nutmeg is a hard seed rather than a leaf, and the mechanism here is made for exactly that kind of density — along with rock salt and peppercorns.
Will rock salt damage it?
No, and that is the point of stainless steel. Salt corrodes ordinary metals, which is why most grinders quietly leave it off the list. This one does not have to.
Can I use it for herbs as well?
Yes, though it is heavier duty than you need for that. If herbs are the main job, one of the lighter pieces in the collection will suit you better — this is the one for the hard stuff.
Black or silver?
Black matches the rest of the range and looks right on a desk. Bare stainless looks right on a kitchen counter next to everything else that is steel. Identical mill inside.
