The Whole Setup, Packed To Travel
A set that lives on a shelf is easy. A set that survives a bag is a different problem entirely — the tray gets bent, the grinder opens against something, and the small parts end up in the corner of a rucksack with the loose change and the crumbs.
The Courier solves that by being packed properly. A tinplate tray, a zinc alloy grinder, storage tubes and a metal tin — and, if you take the case version, a hard black EVA shell that holds every piece in its own place. Zip it shut and the whole setup travels as one object.
The tray is 7 by 5 inches, the grinder is a full 50 millimetres, and the tin is real metal. Nothing here was shrunk to fit the case; the case was built around the pieces.

A Case That Actually Protects
Hard EVA shell at 19.5 × 15 × 6 cm with a place for each piece. Not a pouch — a shaped case that keeps the tray flat and the grinder shut.
Full-Size Tray
180 × 125 mm of tinplate with raised edges. A travel set usually means a smaller everything — this one keeps a proper working surface.
50 mm Zinc Alloy Grinder
Cast metal at a full 50 × 50 × 32 mm. Heavier and wider than the grinders that usually come bundled into kits at this price.
Tubes And A Metal Tin
115 mm sealed tubes for carrying, plus a tinplate box for keeping. Two different storage jobs, both covered.
With Case Or Without
This is the only real decision on the page, so here it is plainly.
- With Case — you get the hard black EVA shell as well. Take this if the set is going in a bag, a car or a suitcase, or if it is a gift. The case is what turns five loose items into one object.
- No Case — the same five pieces, no shell. Take this if the set is staying on a desk at home and never moving. You are not missing a component, only the container.
Why It Earns Its Place
- It is the travelling version of a full setup. Everything else here assumes it lives somewhere; this one assumes it moves.
- Nothing was miniaturised. Full 7 × 5 inch tray and a full 50 mm grinder — the case was sized to them, not the other way round.
- Metal where it counts. Tinplate tray and tin, zinc alloy grinder. The plastic is only in the tubes, where plastic is the right answer.
- Two kinds of storage. Sealed tubes for carrying a portion, a tin for keeping the rest.
- It gives well. A fitted case makes it look considered in a way a boxed set never quite does.
- You can skip the case. Rare in a kit — most sellers make you buy the packaging whether you want it or not.
The reason most travel sets disappoint is that everything in them was made smaller to fit the bag. This one kept the pieces full size and built a harder case instead.

Using It
- Pack the tray flat against the base of the case. Tinplate is strong across its face and weak at the corners — flat is how it stays straight.
- Fill the grinder to the middle of the teeth. Not above, or it will feel stiff and grind unevenly.
- Use the tubes for carrying, the tin for keeping. Tubes seal small amounts for the road; the tin holds what stays at home.
- Everything goes back in its slot. The case only protects what is actually seated in it.

Is the case worth the difference?
If the set is ever leaving the house, yes — it is the difference between one object and five loose ones. If it is staying on a desk, take the No Case version and put the money into something you will actually use.
How is this different from The Loadout?
The Loadout is the set that lives at home — more pieces, including an ashtray, all matching. The Courier is the set that travels: fewer pieces, larger ones, and a hard case built around them. Different jobs.
Is the grinder any good, or is it kit filler?
It is a full 50 mm zinc alloy grinder, which is a genuine size rather than the small one usually dropped into a bundle. If you want a four-piece with a pollen screen, pair the kit with a standalone grinder.
What are the tubes for?
Sealed 115 mm plastic tubes for carrying a portion with you — they keep it contained and stop it drying out in a bag.
